Office Space Key In The War For Talent

It used to be that office space was just office space, but tech companies like Google and Facebook are leading an office space arms race in the war for talent. Once your competitors have cool offices, it becomes difficult to compete for staff who value that.

According to jobs website Adzuna, firemen’s poles, beer tent meeting rooms, collaboration pods and space-age escalators are featured in some of the world’s most attractive office spaces.

And while in-house golf practice ranges and gleaming industrial kitchens might be beyond the budget of some companies, office improvements can be made at many levels.

On the low budget scale, tech workers need good coffee so they love a good coffee machine.

On the high budget scale, sleep-deprived employees working long hours will appreciate a place to nap. Facebook famously has sleep pods and in SEEK’s China offices, the lights are dimmed at lunchtime and people take naps at their desks.

With this philosophy in mind Australian office space startup JAGONAL has launched a search engine to search 4,000 commercial offices using 50 different criteria such as showers, lockers, natural light, views and more. The Sydney based company has catalogued over 4,000 buildings and categorised the features and amenities in each building, allowing companies who value space to have a head start in their office space search. Users can even see a simulated 3D view from any window in the CBD to find the ideal space for their team.
